Jury consists of 12 ordinary people who apply common sense to the subject of determining the innocence or guilt of a person who is accused of a certain offense. The basis for these people as being jury is that, they are representing cross section of local community and with that, they’re likely to judge in line with the general accepted value of the society.
Jurors are representing diversified backgrounds and with that in mind, individual prejudices are more likely to be neutral.
The Importance of Jury in a Court Service
Service rendered by jury plays a crucial factor in the justice system of a country. Let us take for example the justice system of Jamaica. Much like in any other democratic country, the idea of trial rests by juries. The trial by jury provides assurance that people will be accountable to each other instead to the government appointed judge for the decisions made in the trial.
Final Decision
The discussions among juries then result to an in-depth consideration of every aspect of the case.
On the other hand, not everyone can become a jury. There are minimum set of requirements for this like for instance, a jury has to be 18 to 70 years old, they need to have a current voter’s ID and should have a Taxpayer ID.
