By definition, gangs are three or several individuals who are associated by a common identifier who is committing criminal act for the benefit of its group. As a matter of fact, gangs can be categorized in 3 groups and these are the following:
Neighborhood Gangs
This is otherwise referred to as Hybrid gangs. In general, they form along ethics line and usually form around geographic nexus or common connection.

The members of the group either went to same school or living in same neighborhood.
Such gangs are most of the time unheard outside of its local area. But generally speaking, they were formed on the street.
Regional Gangs
These gangs may have started their group on the street or perhaps, it could also be inside prison. They may have a central leadership which all depends on the nature of their gang. But in most cases, they have several subgroups or sets that are spread across a bigger area.
International Gangs
These are gangs that have verifiable, real and criminal presence in various countries. Some of the infamous and notorious international gangs include but not limited to the following:
- MS-13
- Hells Angels
- Yakuza
Yet another way in which gangs could be defined are street and prison gangs. The latter have bigger and major presence compared to the former.
