US elected president Donald Trump has signed a proclamation that suspends the entry of immigrants who won’t be covered by health insurance for the next 30 days upon entering the country. If not, then those who don’t have any means of paying for the costs of healthcare.
This proclamation has been issued by the White House and said that it will not affect any refugee status or individual eligibility for asylum. This measure is set to take effect by November 3, 2019.
Restricting Immigrants
Trump cuts legal as well as illegal immigration centerpiece from the time of his presidency. Trump administration also stated that it is planning to permit only 18,000 refugees to be able to resettle in the US in 2020 fiscal year. This is basically the lowest number in history of modern refugee program.
Seeking New Alternatives
Trump also mentioned that the suspension is applied only to those who are seeking to enter the US with immigration visa. The document also listed the kinds of insurance that is considered approved similar to the following:
- Medicare Program for elders
- Employer-sponsored plans
But it said that for those who are over 18 years old, the coverage under Medicaid program for poor isn’t approved. Trump mentioned that the suspension is only applicable to those who are seeking entry in US with immigrant visa.
